What does your business sell or provide? Sunglasses
How/why did you start your business? I wanted to make sure that I had an extra income in case I got laid off during the Covid 19 pandemic. Plus I love sunglasses.
What did you do before starting your business? I work for the local health department and also an author.
What tips do you have for other women who would like to start their own businesses? Breathe. Pray and Trust God. Have a plan together. Research the item you want to sell. Don't give up on yourself.
What do you do for encouragement or to be motivated ? I have a group of 8 other small business owners, our nickname is "Millionaires Club" that we check in on each other every day and we encourage each other. We pray for each other. I pray daily.
What is the biggest challenge for you as an entrepreneur? Selling to people. I am a giver at heart. So I have to remind myself that I am a business owner now and I have to make profits to keep Majestic Shade Tree going. Also when people complain about prices. I used to get discouraged but I had to tell myself that not everyone will be a customer of Majestic Shade Tree but I can not compromise on prices nor the quality of the sun glasses I sell.
Do you have any mentors or coaches? I don't have any personal mentors to say. The business owners I know are all literally less than 1 to 2 years in the business so we just tell each other what has and what hasn't worked for us.
Do you support / sponsor any charity or community event? If someone comes to me and say they are having an event and would like to know if Majestic Shade Tree will donate I do because I see it as a major networking opportunity.
What is your mantra? My mantra is "Let Majestic Shade Tree shade your eyes," and my hashtag is #ThrowingAllTheShade
