Get Involved: Earth Week / BG Bike Walk

Updated: Aug 25, 2020

As a part of my 50 before 50, I've been looking into how best to volunteer to make the most difference. I have discovered so many ways that the community needs our help.

By being active in supporting the local community, you will not only be giving something back, but while lending a helping hand, you can reap a few benefits yourself, such as making new friends, learning new skills, or advancing your career. Even though there is a lot happening in the world right now, and the thought of volunteering can be overwhelming, there are things we can do to make a difference.

There are tons of volunteering opportunities out there! Most people know they can give back to the community by donating gently used goods to the Salvation Army and volunteering at the local soup kitchen. I decided to put together a mini-series of some new and innovative ideas for giving back.

Let's start with two ways you can help the environment.

BIKE WALK B.G.

Bike Walk BG is a movement seeking to encourage biking and walking for all of Bowling Green. They are involved in the planning efforts that help to create a safer, efficient, and more connected multi-modal transportation system.

What is a Green way?

A Green space is an open space such as a park, wildlife refuge, or undeveloped floodplain. A Green way is a linear greens pace along a natural or man-made corridor. Natural corridors in Warren County include river frontage, stream valleys, or ridge lines. Man-made corridors include abandoned railroad lines, utility rights-of-way, or scenic highways. A Greenbelt is a network of greens paces and green ways that can encircle as well as infiltrate a community.

  • Contact BikeWalk BG if you're interested. http://bikewalkbg.org/

  • Volunteer to help clean up our Greenways! Trash bags, gloves, grabbers, and neon vests will be provided.
