Martha Friel just turned 40 and she is the only person she knows without a PhD, a baby or both. Why can’t she just be happy? Because there is something wrong...
When she was 17, a “bomb” went off in her brain. For decades after, she suffered through bouts of depression and rage that could hit her at any time. She knows something is wrong with her but she doesn’t know what it is. Through it all, her hilarious sister and adoring husband stand by her, until she blows everything up.
But maybe, with finally a proper diagnosis and by starting over, Martha will be able to write a better ending for herself...
This novel is funny, dark, and honest. As someone with mental illness (of the bipolar/depression variety), I found myself nodding along to many insights. Poignant and awkward yet humorous and hopeful… this book is now on my short list of favorite books.
