When I was younger, I did not give much thought to getting tattoos. We were hanging out at my aunt's house swimming when the topic came up. A family friend offered to pay if I wanted to go get a tattoo right then (I guess his way of me not backing out…). So we went! And from that moment, I’ve been hooked. Tattoos are addicting, and I’m itching for a fix. I currently have 7 tattoos, and I thought I’d share a bit about each one with you.
Tattoo: Spider
Location: Right Shoulder
Artist: Mikey, Ink Cave
Year: 1997
My very first tattoo - I chose a spider to symbolize that my abusive ex husband would never touch me again. He was afraid of spiders.
Tattoo: Gecko
Location: Left ankle
Artist: JW Culverhouse
Year: 2008
My sister's fiance who was working as an apprentice tattoo artist drew me a gecko with flowers (that were supposed to be cherry blossoms). I just wanted a foot/ankle tattoo and I loved his drawing. This one was the most painful.
Tattoo: Clef heart
Location: left wrist
Artist: Doughboy, Carter’s
Year: 2017
This tattoo represents the two halves of my heart. My son sings bass and plays bass drum so half the heart is for him. Amellia sings and plays other instruments, half the heart is for her.
Tattoo: Flower
Location: right wrist
Artist: Frank, Carter’s
Year: 2018
This is my mother/daughter tattoo that I got when Amellia turned 18. She picked it and we got it in the same location.
Tattoo: Sisters Arrow
Location: left forearm
Artist: John Nichols, (formerly 31 Ink)
Year: 2018
This is my sister tattoo. The word Sister is written by our mother and we got matching tats in the same location.
Tattoo: New York Apple
Location: right forearm
Artist: Eddie Stabz, Crown Ink Studio Brooklyn NYC
Year: 2019
I got this tattoo to symbolize my love of the greatest city in the world, NYC and I got it done while in NYC!
Tattoo: Just Breathe
Location: left chest
Artist: Garrett Morrell, 31 Ink
Year: 2019
This tattoo is a reminder for me to take a moment and relax, and Just Breathe.
My tattoo wish list - anyone that wants to donate to the cause, free advertising on the website!
Mama Bear w/ Pride cub - location undecided
Dream Catcher w/ kids names- right thigh
Dragon / Fairy sleeve - right shoulder down right arm
The Hamsa Hand - location undecided
Paint brush - finger
Red Rose w/ MOM banner - left back shoulder
Phoenix with a crown - upper left arm
Tattoo: Hamsa Hand
Location: right forearm
Artist: Jade Morgan Hammontree, Peach Tree Tattoo - BG, KY
Year: 2021
I got this tattoo later in 2021! The evil eye represents protection and the hamsa in general stands for good luck and maternal love. A Hamsa hand tattoo is believed to ward off negativity, bringing peace, harmony, and good luck into the wearer's life.
