Melt with Misty, Independent Scentsy Consultant
What does your business sell or provide? Scentsy is about more than just wax melts. Scentsy provides wax melts, laundry care, pet care, body care and warmers. Scentsy wax is made of food grade wax. Our warmers do not heat the wax, they warm them to provide the best fragrance aroma to help fill your entire area.
How/why did you start your business? I decided to restart my venture with Scentsy as an Independent Consultant back in March 2012. After a while with them, I put it off and decided to no longer be a consultant. After 8 years of being gone from sales, I decided to restart my career with them. July 2020 I went back to being an Independent Consultant. Best decision that I have made in a long time.
What did you do before starting your business? Personally, I prayed about the decision. I also made sure that my family would be on board with me starting back, having their support is what helps to keep me motivated.
What tips do you have for other women who would like to start their own businesses? Prior to starting for any woman, I would reach out to someone in the field that they are choosing to go into, and ask them their ups and downs. Knowing the ups and downs from other women, helped me know that being in this on my own, even through ups and downs, that I was going to make it.
What do you do for encouragement or to be motivated ? I talk to my family. I also have a large Scentsy family that I can reach out to. My sponsor and director have been a big help. When I feel down, I talk to them and they help uplift me and keep me focused.
What is the biggest challenge for you as an entrepreneur? The biggest challenge has been the lack of people having jobs, as it affects people and their buying. I have to keep spreading the word of my business and keep pressing even in the tough economy.
Do you have any mentors or coaches? My sponsor, Jen Slaton and Director, Melody
Short they have been excellent at listening to me when I need help or frustrated about a situation. I came back into this with previous experience as a consultant. They understood that and helped me to learn the many new things that Scentsy has to offer, they were awesome at also helping me to put together sample bags and what should be included to help promote my business.
Do you support / sponsor any charity or community event? I sponsor a local organization that is dear to me called All Youth Matters Outreach. (Their mission is to bring restoration back to the community. They want to empower youth to believe again and to stand together as visionaries and ministers). This is a local event held in Madisonville, Kentucky. Since 2015, there has been an annual block party with Christian Hip Hop and other artists performing for free in the local Pride Apartment District. In 2019, the block party was held in the local Downtown Madisonville area. During the block party there are games, food, and music set up. All things are free for everyone in attendance. In 2020, everything has looked a little different for this group of amazing people.
What is your mantra? My mantra in life is not to say I THINK I CAN, but to say I KNOW I CAN!! I know I can do all things through Christ, that gives me strength. Philippians 4:13
